The purpose of gathering and using personal information is to manage the contractual relationship of the VIA CARD service available in the Portals, to provide information regarding the contracted services, to adapt the services to the needs and interests of the users, as well as to carry out information and marketing actions, in particular distributing unsolicited communications for direct marketing purposes, mainly through the use of SMS (short message service) or e-mail messages.

Personal information is also used to respond to complaints and suggestions from users.

To access some of the services and information available at Portals, it is mandatory to use personal information that identifies or authenticates users, since without them it is impossible to provide the requested services.

Gathering and processing information

LUSOPONTE is the entity responsible for gathering, processing, maintaining and safeguarding the users’ personal information when they access online services provided by LUSOPONTE and also access the VIA CARD service management area.

In this case, the personal information gathered will be processed and stored by LUSOPONTE and, when applicable, by the entities contracted by LUSOPONTE. This information is only for the proposed of enabling the continuation of the services available in the Portals.

LUSOPONTE may transfer its clients’ personal information to third parties provided that it has unequivocally obtained the consent of the users, or when:

(i) the transmission is made in compliance with a legal obligation, a resolution by the National Data Protection Commission or a court order; and

(ii) the communication is carried out to protect the vital interests of users or any other legitimate purpose provided by law.

The tax number and the unique VIA CARD customer identification reference automatically generated by the Portals are communicated to SIBS ( for the payment of the VIA CARD service available at ATMs and bank portals that provide the SIBS payment services.

Security measures

LUSOPONTE makes every effort to protect users’ personal information against unauthorized access through the Internet. For that purpose, it uses security systems, rules and other procedures to ensure the protection of users' personal data, as well as to prevent unauthorized access to it, and its improper use, disclosure, loss or destruction.

It is, however, the user´s responsibility to ensure that the computer or device (smartphone, tablet, etc.) is properly protected against harmful software, computer viruses and worms. In addition, the user should be aware that without appropriate security measures (for example, safe configuration of the navigation program, up-to-date anti-virus software, security barrier software and non-use of software of doubtful origin) it increases the risk of personal information and passwords being accessed by third parties without authorization.
